Ready to golf? Fresno revises pandemic policies for public courses and medical services

Public golf courses in Fresno are allowed to reopen, the city announced Monday evening.

The new policy from Mayor Lee Brand aligns with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s announcement earlier Monday allowing some businesses to reopen.

In Fresno, Airways and Riverside golf courses can reopen “as soon as they identify and meet specific social distancing protocols,” according to a news release from the city.

Also, disc golf at Woodward Park will re-open as soon as signs with health and social distancing protocols are posted.

According to the city, social distancing protocols for courses include:

Maintaining social distancing in the clubhouse, pro shop, and tees and greens.

No direct physical contact between golf course employees and guests.

All golfers must walk the course, unless carts are necessary to meet ADA requirements.

All pull carts must be washed and sanitized before each use.

Maximum of four players per tee time.

Tee times should be spaced to regulate the number of players on the course at any time.

Food and beverage areas should be open for grab-and-go service or delivery.

Medical/dental policy update

In addition, the city of Fresno clarified its policy on medical and dental care. Healthcare providers — such as doctors, dentists, mental health professionals, nurses, optometrists and hospice workers — should follow the guidance of the California Department of Public Health, the Fresno County Department of Public Health and their respective licensing authorities regarding their services.

Brand said the city made the clarification after discussions with the Fresno County Department of Public Health and local health care officials.
