Highway 58 in Bakersfield reopening after hazmat incident
Update: Just before 2 p.m., the CHP was preparing to reopen roadway.
Highway 58, the main route from the central Joaquin Valley to Los Vegas, was shut down Monday morning by the California Highway Patrol following a hazardous materials spill.
A CHP spokeswoman said the incident took place just after 9 a.m. after a vehicle fire involving a big rig. The closure shut down both eastbound and westbound lanes of the roadway at Fairfax Road.
It is not known when the highway will reopen.
