Fresno driver hits wall, flips car after crossing Highway 168 into opposite lanes

A wild crash left a Fresno man with major injuries Saturday evening, when his car careened through the center divider along Highway 168, across the opposite lanes of traffic and wound up hitting a wall and overturning before coming to rest on its wheels.

No other cars are believed to have been involved in the 6:47 p.m. incident just east of the Herndon Avenue exit in Clovis. The car was headed eastbound when it went through the 50-foot median and across the westbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The driver, in his early 30s, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. It is unclear how fast the car was going, CHP spokesman Mike Salas said, or what triggered the crash.

Someone in the area reported hearing the sound of the car crashing into the sound-barrier wall along the highway.

Salas said it did not appear that alcohol was a factor.
