Selma man killed in ATV crash with no helmet; CHP says alcohol may have been factor
A Selma man was killed in a crash while riding an ATV on Easter Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
About 11 a.m., a call came in of a 48-year-old man hurt along Floral Avenue just west of Bethel Avenue outside Selma. The driver was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The man was driving a Suzuki ATV east on Floral, investigators believe, when he apparently made an abrupt turn to the left causing the vehicle to overturn within the westbound lane. He was thrown onto the north dirt shoulder; there was no immediate word on what prompted the man to swerve.
The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the CHP, and alcohol is believed to be a factor. There was no indication he was riding with anyone else, nor who made the call.
