5.3 earthquake rattles area east of Yosemite National Park

An earthquake initially registering 5.3 on the Richter scale was reported just after 7:30 a.m. Saturday by the U.S. Geological Survey due east of Mono Lake and Yosemite National Park.

The quake was centered near the California-Nevada border, USGS said. At least eight other smaller earthquakes shook the region in the following hour.

There were no immediate reports of damage.
