Interstate 5 reopened at Grapevine after big rig chemical spill Wednesday

Update: The southbound lanes of the interstate reopened around 11:30 a.m., Caltrans reported. The Nos. 1 and 2 northbound lanes reopened around 2 p.m. and delays were expected due to congestion.

Original story: A traffic collision involving a big rig hauling a hazardous forced the shutdown of Interstate 5 south of Bakersfield Wednesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol said the road closure included both north and south directions near Grapevine Road and State Route 14. Traffic was being diverted to alternate roadways.

The collision happened about 7:38 a.m. north of Lebec Road. By Wednesday afternoon all lanes had been reopened.
