Motorcyclist thrown during crash with a BMW in central Fresno, police say

A man on a motorcycle was critically injured Tuesday night after a crash in central Fresno.

Paramedics rushed the man to the hospital with extensive injuries to his body, said Lt. Anthony Dewall.

Dewall said the crash appears to have happened as the man drove his motorcycle south on West Avenue just before 6 p.m. At that time, a white BMW was northbound on West Avenue and had made a westbound turn on Dakota Avenue when the motorcycle and the vehicle collided at the intersection.

The driver of the car stayed on scene. Dewall said it did not appear that he was under any influence.

The motorcycle driver was picked up from the roadway by paramedics, who then rushed him to Community Regional Medical Center. He was taken in critical condition, and had injuries all over, said Dewall. His identity was not confirmed.

Dewall said police will investigate how the crash happened, and who was at fault.
