The Clovis City Council voted unanimously Monday night to proclaim a local emergency in response to COVID-19.

The resolution will allow the city to more effectively respond to the growing coronavirus health emergency and may allow the city to receive disaster funding to deal with COVID-19 and related issues, city spokesman Chad McCollum said.

The move came during a special council meeting and follows similar actions by many other cities across the region and state including the city of Fresno on Monday afternoon.
