Tulare police make arrest in crash that killed Fresno State softball player’s father
Tulare police arrested a man on drunk driving charges in the crash that killed a Tulare educator who is the father of a Fresno State softball player.
Izeah Almaguer, 23, of Tulare, was booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular homicide in the car crash that led to the death of Rudy Carrasco, the father of Fresno State softball player Kelcey Carrasco.
Carrasco, the dean of students at Tulare Western High, was killed Feb. 26 in a car crash at North H Street and West San Joaquin in Tulare, according to the Tulare Police Department.
Officers determined on the night of the crash that Almaguer ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed and broadsided Carrasco’s vehicle.
Carrasco, 49, of Woodlake, later died at a hospital.
A toxicology report revealed on Friday that Almaguer had a blood alcohol content of .13, beyond the legal limit for driving of .08, according to Tulare Police. He was arrested Friday afternoon and booked into the Tulare County Jail.
Carrasco was a popular educator before becoming dean of students Tulare Western High.
His daughter Kelcey is a senior catcher on the Fresno State softball team. She returned to the Bulldogs lineup Friday night for the first time since her father’s death.
A graduate of Tulare Western, Kelcey started her collegiate career at Michigan State before transferring to Fresno State last season.
Her family became a vocal fixture at Bulldogs home games at Margie Wright Diamond.
