Two people transported to a local hospital after Fresno house fire

Two people were transported to a local hospital following a Fresno house fire on Wednesday night.

The incident happened 1600th block of E. Cortland Avenue, near the intersection of Blackstone and Shields.

Capt. Robert Castillo, public information officer for the Fresno Fire Department, said one of the two fire victims was rescued from inside the home by Fresno firefighters. The the other victim, he said, was being treated and evaluated for injuries related to the incident before being taken to a hospital as well.

“Initial reports were that there were three people (inside), it was possible, that was not the case,” he said.

The Central California SPCA was called to the scene to care for two animals, he said.

The call first came in at 6:51 p.m, Castillo said. The fire was under control at around 8p.m.

As of 8:30 p.m., fire investigators were at the scene.

Cause of fire was unknown and the incident still being investigated. As many as 31 firefighters responded to the scene.

Castillo wouldn’t comment on how severely burned the victims were or the damage to the property.
