Gas prices keep falling in Fresno, Valley. Here’s where the best deals are
California’s average gas prices remain among the highest in the U.S., but some of the cheapest gasoline in the state can be found in the central San Joaquin Valley.
A pair of gas stations/convenience stores in Farmersville, east of Visalia, shared the distinction of having the lowest pump prices in the entire state as February comes to an end. On Friday, GasBuddy.com reported that the Fastrip store at the southwest corner of Farmersville Boulevard and Visalia Road was selling regular unleaded gasoline for $2.63 per gallon. Across the street, on the north side of Visalia Road, the same price was reported at the PJ Express Mart.
A few blocks to the east on Visalia Road, users of the GasBuddy real-time price-reporting app recorded a price of $2.76 per gallon at Prince Gas. That was the second-cheapest price in all of California behind its two neighbors in Farmersville.
Also among the 10 lowest-priced stations in the state on Friday were the Yokut Gas station near the Tachi Palace Casino south of Lemoore in Kings County at $2.82 per gallon for regular unleaded, and the Chukchansi Crossing station near the Chukchansi Gold Casino near Coarsegold in Madera County at $2.83.
In the Fresno-Clovis area, the cheapest gas price reported Friday by GasBuddy users was $2.87 per gallon at several stations throughout the city:
▪ A 76 station at Herndon Avenue and Highway 99 in northwest Fresno.
▪ Costco membership stores on Blackstone Avenue north of Herndon Avenue in north Fresno; on Shaw Avenue in northwest Fresno; and on Clovis Avenue south of Shaw in Clovis.
▪ Sinclair station at Bullard Avenue and First Street in northeast Fresno and Blackstone and Barstow avenues.
▪ Sam’s Market and Gas at Blackstone and Yale avenues, near Fresno City College.
Over the past month, the average pump prices across the Valley and California have fallen by between three to 10 cents per gallon. Since prices in the region hit their 2019 peak of more than $4.12 per gallon in October, the average prices now are down by about 60 to 85 cents per gallon, according to data from AAA Gas Prices.
It was a much different gas-price picture in San Luis Obispo, which bore the burden of having the highest average prices not only in the state, but the nation. On Friday, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was estimated at $3.60 by GasBuddy.com and at $3.68 by AAA Gas Prices.
The averages reported by AAA Gas Prices and GasBuddy.com reflect prices across all gas stations in a market; prices vary from station to station within a city and even within neighborhoods.
