This Clovis home is so beautiful, couples regularly got married there. It’s for sale

Arguably the most picturesque home in the central San Joaquin Valley is for sale.

Located along the foothills of Clovis, the property on 16393 Auberry Road was known as the Clovis Castle when it was used as a wedding venue from 2009-2015.

But it also was a private residence initially when the 9,700-square foot home was built in 2001 — and it still could be — featuring a total of five bedrooms, six bathrooms, as well as an eight-car garage.

And of course, it comes with the iconic lighthouse that’s been used as the backdrop to many wedding photos over the years.

“We’ve had so many great memories here,” said listing agent Jaime Bratton, whose grandparents own the property. “Our children spent many Christmases and Thanksgivings here. I got married here. The place is beautiful, inside and out.

“But it’s time. It’s time to let it go and sell. Let someone else create new memories as their home. Or maybe a business wants to take over the property as a wedding venue again.”

Price tag and Britney Spears

The listing price is $5.47 million for the home, which sits on 55.3 acres of land with expansive views.

“It’s basically the whole mountain,” said Bratton of Bratton Real Estate, Inc. “It’s three separate (assessor’s parcel numbers). So someone could build other houses on the parcels if they wanted to.”

The property has been on the market since October, currently the most expensive single-residence property for sale in the central San Joaquin Valley.

Back in 2011 when the house was initially up for sale, pop artist Britney Spears considered purchasing the home, Bratton said.

Bratton’s grandparents, however, decided to lease out the property for use as a wedding/special events venue.

Thus, Clovis Castle was created.

Clovis Castle as wedding venue

Based on many online reviews, the spot appears to be a popular destination to get married in the Valley. Yelp reviews gave Clovis Castle a rating of 3 1/2 stars (out of 5 stars).

The granite stone lighthouse, which can be seen when driving on Auberry Road, along with the flowing foothills and Sierra Nevada in the background provide gorgeous scenery and memorable photo opportunities.

The wedding venue, however, closed in 2015 after the home owners terminated their lease for not taking care of the property, Bratton said.

Bratton added many people who aren’t aware that the Clovis Castle closed still make visits out to the property and ask to book weddings.

Her family also has received several phones calls inquiring about using the Clovis Castle for their special event.

At one point, the family considered continuing to use the property as a special events venue and run the business themselves. But ultimately, Bratton said her grandparents decided it’s best to sell.

Other home features

Among the other features to the home:

A quarter-mile long driveway made of iron spot brick that’s 100 years old and came from a railroad station in Merced, according to Bratton.

The five-story lighthouse was renovated last year and now includes a spiral case, as well as an elevator as options to get up and down the building.

“Before, it was just for looks,” Bratton said. “Now, there’s functionality to it.”

There also are two separate waterfalls with wading pools on the property.

And the chef’s kitchen in the main building features a countertop made from a solid slab of granite.

A broker’s open house is scheduled for 11 a.m. March 4.

“All of this could be somebody’s,” Bratton said. “It’s a pretty impressive piece of real estate.”
