A man in a wheelchair who was moving along the edge of a Fresno street was struck and killed Friday evening in a hit-and-run, according to police.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. just north of the intersection of Brawley and McKinley avenues, west of Highway 99.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Ronnie Rodriguez, 53, of Fresno.

Police said Rodriguez was traveling on the edge of the northbound lanes of Brawley when a vehicle struck him.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle involved in the crash did not remain at the scene.

Police described the vehicle as a white or light-colored pickup truck.

Lt. Bill Dooley said no witnesses were found at the scene. Detectives were canvassing the surrounding neighborhoods looking for surveillance video.
