South Valley man stabs elderly woman in the head, police say. A lengthy standoff followed
A Corcoran man was arrested Friday for allegedly stabbing a 72-year-old woman who is related to him.
Joseph Morales, 43, was taken into custody after a standoff with police that last several hours, refusing to come out of his home on Josephine Avenue, according to records from the Corcoran Police Department.
The elderly woman, whose relation to the suspect was not immediately known, told officers that Morales stabbed her in the head and eye. He also was holding a second family member hostage inside the home.
During the standoff, police were able to help the woman escape through a rear window while officers spoke to Morales through the front door.
Both women were treated at the scene by medical personnel.
Morales eventually surrendered and was taken to Kings County Jail, where he was booked for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, elder abuse and resisting/delaying a police officer.
His bail was set at $675,000, though he was also booked and held on a no-bail parole hold, according to records.
