Woman standing on dark Merced road struck and killed by driver, CHP reports
A 25-year-old woman who was standing on a darkened roadway was struck and killed by a driver who could not avoid the collision early Thursday in Merced, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fatality took place about 4:30 a.m. as Marco Ochoa, of Merced, was northbound on Ashby Road near Fern Street, according to officer Eric Zuniga. Ochoa swerved to avoid the woman, but was unable to do so.
Zuniga said officers determined that Ochoa was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The woman’s identity was not released pending notification of family.
