Man injured, home heavily damaged in southeast Fresno fire

An early morning fire injured a man and heavily damaged a home in southeast Fresno on Monday, firefighters reported.

Flames erupted just before 8 a.m. at South Archie and East Lane avenues, sending billowing black smoke into the sky near the major intersection of Kings Canyon Boulevard and Cedar Avenue.

Battalion Chief Bob Camp said arriving firefighters rendered aid to a man who was living in the house; he suffered burns to his hands and feet while investigating the source of the flames. The injuries were described as non-life threatening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the home was not inhabitable because of the damage. A total of 23 firefighters, including a truck from Fresno County Fire, assisted in controlling the blaze.
