Wrong-way driver killed on Highway 180 in Fresno after crashing into truck
A 33-year-old man was killed Saturday night after he reportedly drove his car on the wrong side of Highway 180 and crashed head on with a truck in Fresno.
The crash caused a Toyota Tundra truck to overturn and trap 32-year-old Leng Thao. He was extricated by emergency responders and was rushed to a local hospital with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Callers had informed 911 dispatchers that a Toyota Sienna was traveling west on the eastbound lanes of Highway 180 shortly before the crash near Peach Avenue.
The CHP said the wrong-day driver of the Sienna, identified as Christopher Her, died at the scene. He had missed several other vehicles on the highway before crashing into Thao, who was traveling at 65 mph, according to the CHP.
It was unclear if alcohol played a factor in the crash. The crash closed the highway for about 90 minutes as officers investigated.
