Did you feel it? 3.0 magnitude earthquake shakes Mariposa area
A magnitude 3.0 earthquake took place about 7.5 miles south of Mariposa at 3:14 p.m. Friday, the United States Geological Survey reported.
“We felt it here at the Sheriff’s Office,” Kristie Mitchell, Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, said. “It was a small shaking, it was more loud. It kind of felt like someone hit the building with their vehicle.”
Citizen reports by 46 individuals show that weak-to-light shaking was felt around the area, especially in the northeast toward the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Mitchell said no reports of damage or injuries have been called into the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office posted about it on their Facebook page. Many individuals commented about their own experience during the earthquake.
Magnitude 3.0 earthquakes are typically minor. They are often felt, but rarely cause damage.
The earthquake’s depth was about 11.1 miles.
