55,000 pounds of burritos recalled from Valley-based Ruiz Foods. Here’s the problem

Dinuba-based Ruiz Food Products on Tuesday recalled 55,013 pounds of its El Monterey Signature Burrito Egg, Sausage & Cheese burritos from store shelves after customers reported finding plastic in the food.

Ruiz recalled one lot of the frozen food Value Packs that come with 12 of the burritos – lot No. 19288 with a best by date of 1/15/2021.

“The problem was discovered when the firm notified (Food Safety and Inspection Service) of three consumer complaints involving pieces of white, semi-rigid plastic found in the product,” the USDA recall notice said.

Consumers can return the product to the store for a full refund or just discard it. Those with questions can call Ruiz at 800-772-6474.

The Tulare County-based company has a manufacturing plant in Dinuba and distributes products nationwide, and it’s not clear which factory the recalled burritos came from.

The company also has plants in Texas and South Carolina.
