Air quality spikes to hazardous levels in Valley. Stay indoors, officials advise
Air quality has become hazardous in the central San Joaquin Valley and residents should avoid outdoor activity, according to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.
Air quality hovered over level two for most of Tuesday, meaning sensitive individuals should reduce outdoor activity.
But it began to spike around 4 p.m., according to data provided by the district.
As of 5 p.m., conditions skyrocketed past level five, which is considered hazardous to everyone.
At 7 p.m., particulate matter 2.5 was at 109 micrograms per cubic meter.
The district advises all outdoor activities be moved inside or rescheduled until air quality improves.
The poor air quality, plus the dense fog that rolled into the evening, made Tuesday an unpleasant day to be outside.
