Deputies patrolling Madera County schools following shooting threat, sheriff’s office says

Deputies with the Madera County Sheriff’s Office were actively patrolling at two schools Thursday following the threat of a school shooting.

The threat was received by a student at Ranchos Middle School on Wednesday night via the social media app Snapchat. Detectives were unable to identify who sent he message.

The sheriff’s office will have additional deputies at the middle school and Liberty High School while the investigation continues, according to a post by the department on Facebook. A school resource officer is also on duty.

Administrators at both schools have been made aware of the threat, the post said.

Anyone with information relating to the case is urged to contact the sheriff’s office at 559-675-7770.
