The California Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to slow down as fog envelops the central San Joaquin Valley.

This comes following a crash in Malaga that sheered the roof a car and sent the driver to the hospital.

The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. near South Golden State Boulevard and South Chestnut Avenue when a driver slammed into the rear bumper of a big rig that was turning left onto Chestnut.

The impact sheared the roof from the car and sent the sedan veering some 500 feet to 600 feet into the northbound lanes of traffic. The driver was “was able to walk out of his mangled vehicle” before being taken to Community Regional Medical Center, the CHP reported. The injuries were not life-threatening.

The dense fog and high rate of speed contributed to the crash, the CHP reported.

The CHP reminded drivers to reduce speed, use low beams and limit distractions while driving in the fog.

“Lucky to be alive and reminder FOG season has arrived,” the CHP wrote on its social media accounts. “SLOW DOWN, turn your low beam lights on, limit your distractions and always buckle up!”
