Police pulled a man from his burning home early Saturday before flames overtook the house, according to Visalia Fire Department.

The man was not injured but was unaware of the blaze that was reported at 6:17 a.m. in the 1000 block of Sweet Avenue, north of Houston Avenue, according to firefighters.

Heavy flames were visible through the roof of the home when fire crews arrived. The flames were contained in about an hour but caused about $265,000 in damages, according to a news release.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, the release said. Four fire engines, two ladder trucks and 20 firefighters responded.
