Tulare councilman caught driving Ferrari 100 mph on Visalia street pleads not guilty
A Tulare city councilman is facing up to six months in jail, probation and fines for allegedly racing his Ferrari down a Visalia street last May.
Greg Nunley was in court on Tuesday facing two misdemeanor charges including speeding, reckless driving. He was also charged with driving an unregistered vehicle and failing to have his driver’s license, according to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office.
Nunley entered a not-guilty plea, according to his attorney.
He is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Dec. 16, the DA’s office said.
Though the charges were filed in October, the incident took place May 31, when Visalia police said Nunley was pulled over while driving a 2005 Ferrari F430 Spider on Mooney Boulevard.
He was traveling at a speed of 90-100 mph, according to Sgt. Gary Williams, and the vehicle was in race mode. The car’s race mode minimizes gear-shifting times and is designed for racetrack driving.
Nunley’s name should be well known in the area. The real estate developer and his wife, Michelle Nunley, were the legal custodians of former Tulare Union High standout (and current Fresno State running back) Romello Harris.
Nunley was elected to represent Tulare’s District 5 in 2016, defeating three-term incumbent Craig Vejvoda by just 16 votes.
His time on the council has been contentious.
In 2018, The Visalia Times Delta reported he was the subject of a workplace misconduct investigation and was accused in a lawsuit of failing to pay “development impact fees totaling nearly $500,000.”
In April, Nunley filed a legal claim against the city for $16.5 million, the newspaper reported. He filed a second lawsuit in November.
Nunley’s name also made headlines in October, when the Tulare Fire Department responded to a fire that engulfed Nunley’s 27,000-square-foot home in Tulare. Workers had finished construction on the house just weeks before, according to CBS47.
