Quick work by fire crews keeps Fresno County wildfire from getting out of hand

CAL FIRE

As major wildfires rage in other parts of California, crews made quick work to keep a fire near Kings Canyon National Park in eastern Fresno County from becoming something bigger Thursday.

Cal Fire reported that the Badger fire broke out on Dunlap Road near the mountain community of Miramonte. The first crews on the scene at about 1:15 p.m. reported that the fire covered about two acres and was spreading slowly. Within a half hour, the fire’s spread had been stopped, and firefighters soon were working on extinguishing hot spots and gaining full containment of the fire.

While some structures were initially threatened when firefighters arrived, no buildings were damaged in the fire.

In northern California, crews continued to battle a growing number of fires including the 10,000-acre Kincaid fire that prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents in Sonoma County. Statewide, Cal Fire reported nine significant fires active on Thursday involving about 20,000 acres.
