Husband and wife thrown from car, killed in I-5 were unrestrained
A Panorama City couple was killed Sunday when a tire blew out on an SUV on I-5 near Coalinga not wearing seat belts, the California Highway Patrol reported. Both were thrown from the Ford Explorer.
The victims were identified Tuesday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as husband Jose Ramon Lopez Marin, 51, and wife Maria Guadalupe Tinoco Docil, 64.
They were among six Panorama City occupants of the Ford.
The crash happened about 9:30 a.m. as the Javier Lopez Tinoco, 32, was southbound on I-5 north of Jayne Avenue when the tire failed at a speed of about 65 mph and the SUV overturned. The women died at the scene.
Tinoco was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries. Ramon Lopez, 45, also suffered major injures and was taken by ambulance to CRMC. Two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
