Thousands without power in Fresno County after thunder, rain and lightning hit area

About 13,800 people were without power for parts of Thursday night after a severe thunderstorm struck the central San Joaquin Valley, according to Pacific Gas & Electric.

As many as 10,000 customers were without power starting around 9 p.m. in both central west Fresno and Clovis, based on the PG&E power outage map.

In addition, a significantly larger area of rural Fresno County did not have power, covering much of north, east and northeast of Clovis, based on the PG&E power outage map.

Approximately 3,800 customers in the rural area were affected by the outage, according to PG&E spokesman Denny Boyles.

He added that PG&E crews were responding to the outages.
