Meet this year’s Fresno County Mother of the Year. She’s described as ‘nurturing’
Betty L. Elser was selected as 2019 Mother of the Year by the Fresno County Women’s Chamber of Commerce.
Elser was surprised with the honor at her northwest Fresno home, greeted in her backyard with “whoos” and claps from family and friends.
She was handed individual red roses as she took in the surprise then officially crowned to mark the honor.
“I’m very much surprised, that’s for sure,” Elser said. “It’s so wonderful to have so many good friends and relatives.”
Elser, who recently turned 83, was nominated by her two daughters and son. They noted her devotion as a mother and friend.
Her pastor calls her “nurturing” and “wise.” A friend describes her as a mentor who helped her through difficult times, according a news release announcing her award.
Elser will participate in the 77th Fresno County Mother of the Year luncheon on May 10 hosted by the Women’s Chamber of Commerce at Pardini’s Banquets hall. Other nominees for the award also are invited.
They are: Susan Elizabeth Stafford, Amy Galyan, Catherine Elaine Horn and Kacey Auston-Tibbetts.
