Tornado warning issued for parts of Madera, Mariposa counties after north Valley funnel cloud
The National Weather Service in Hanford issued a tornado warning around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for Madera and Mariposa counties.
The tornado threat included the possibility of quarter-sized hail, according to the weather service. The warning was in place until 6 p.m.
The specific area under warning Boojack and the Catheys Valley and Raymond areas, which have a combined population of around 2,780.
Heavy winds and hail have been reported in the north Valley throughout the day. In Merced County, a funnel cloud was spotted around 2:35 p.m. southwest of Livingston. The weather station said the cloud did not touch down.
There were no immediate reports of a second funnel cloud or a tornado following the weather station’s warning.
