Man killed and another critically injured in crash with big rig near Selma, CHP says
A man was killed and another injured Friday in a crash with a big rig in Fresno County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the deceased man as 19-year-old Joseph Ramirez.
CHP spokesman Victor Taylor said Ramirez driving an Acura west on Dinuba Avenue crashed into the driver side of a southbound Freightliner big rig stopped at the intersection of Dinuba and Bethel avenues.
He died at the scene. His male passenger was taken in critical condition to Community Regional Medical Center.
The victim was identified Monday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Joseph Ramirez, 19, of Parlier.
Witnesses told the CHP that the victim’s car was driving at a high rate of speed before the crash, which happened around 3:15 p.m. The driver of the big rig was not injured. Traffic was being diverted in the area due to the crash investigation.
