CHP sergeant saves unconscious truck driver at Fresno business

A California Highway Patrol sergeant saved an unconscious truck-driver Thursday morning by climbing into and stopping a moving big rig from colliding into a nearby commercial building, the CHP said.

The truck was loaded with stainless steel tank panels on its way to Lost Hills when the driver pulled out of the company yard in Fresno shortly after 6 a.m. and became unconscious.

He was driving at approximately 3-5 mph when CHP Sgt. Hector Madrigal, the supervisor for the heavy-load escort, noticed the driver having medical issues and placed his car ahead of the rolling truck’s path.

Madrigal then ran back to the truck and climbed in, pulled the emergency brakes and with the aid of CHP officer David Russell, removed the driver from the truck and started CPR.

The truck driver was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was placed in a medically induced coma and was receiving advanced care, the CHP said.
