Reckless driving near Valley Children’s Hospital leads to one death, CHP says
A driver was killed in a crash near Valley Children’s Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after they lost control while passing other cars, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 58-year-old was driving a silver Hyundai west on Children’s Boulevard at about 65 mph. Witnesses told CHP officers that the driver was weaving in and out of traffic while trying to pass cars just east of 40 1/2 Avenue, said CHP spokesman Gregorio Rodriguez.
The Hyundai then entered a curve and lost control, hitting an eastbound brown Chevrolet SUV driven by Erin Holland, 38, of Fresno.
The Hyundai driver, who will be identified by the Madera County Coroner, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Holland was taken to St. Agnes Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries, Rodriguez said.
The crash happened around 3 p.m.. The area was closed for about two hours.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors, Rodriguez said.
