Valley to see temperatures soar through weekend
Goodbye spring, hello summer.
The Valley can kiss its relatively cool temperatures goodbye for a while, as daytime highs are expected to soar into the 90s through the weekend, the National Weather Service in Hanford said.
The temperatures will hover around the mid 90s for Thursday and Friday, but Saturday will be the hottest day of the week in Fresno at 98 degrees, said Jim Bagnall at the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Parts of the Valley such as Coalinga, Kettleman City, Exeter, Hanford, Lemoore and Corcoran could hit 100 degrees during the weekend, he said.
A cool down will begin on Sunday, with Fresno’s high temperature slipping to 94 degrees. By Tuesday, the daytime high in Fresno should be back in the mid-80s.
The lows for the rest of the week will stay between the high 50 and low 60s.
Bagnall said the average high temperature in Fresno for this time of the year is 87 degrees.
A high pressure system is building over the region and it’s causing the temperature increase, Bagnall said.
Bagnall recommends drinking only water during the heat instead of caffeine or alcohol.
“Avoid the heat if you can,” Bagnall said. “If you must go outside, take breaks and hydrate.”
