Man lying on road struck by car near Lemoore

A man lying on a road was struck by a vehicle in rural Kings County east of Lemoore early Wednesday. Authorities are investigating whether he was dead before the collision.

Adam Barresi, a CHP spokesman, said the accident happened shortly before 4 a.m. A Honda Accord was going north on 16th Avenue toward Highway 198. The driver, a 42-year-old Porterville man, tried to brake when he saw the victim, who was lying in the northbound lane and wearing black clothing.

The vehicle struck the man, who has not been identified. He died at the scene, but authorities were unsure if he was already dead prior to the accident, Barresi said. The driver was unharmed.

It was the second fatal accident in the Lemoore area in as many days.

The CHP’s investigation is continuing. Anyone with information regarding the victim’s identity or the accident is asked to call Hanford CHP at (559) 582-0231.
