Pedestrian seriously injured after crash near Millerton Lake

MyrtleBeach

A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday night after he was hit by a car in Friant, according to Sgt. James Del Carlo with the California Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was walking across Friant Road, just north of Root Street, when a Chevy Malibu driving north hit him, Del Carlo said. He was struck by the front of the vehicle and the windshield was also damaged.

The man suffered broken bones and head trauma.

The driver of the Malibu, a woman in her 40s, was fully cooperative and drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, Del Carlo said. The Malibu was driving about 45 mph, which is the posted speed limit in that area, when the crash happened.

The pedestrian was lying in the roadway when CHP arrived, according to CHP’s traffic incident log. The crash happened around 7:05 p.m.
