An elderly man was hospitalized Saturday after he crashed into a van carrying 10 people in Fresno County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP spokesman Victor Taylor said the man, whose age or name was not provided, may have had a medical emergency before he crossed the double yellow line as he drove his Honda Odyssey south on McCall Avenue near Jensen Avenue. Just before 2 p.m., he collided head on with the Chevy passenger van, Taylor said.

The man suffered major injuries, described by Taylor as compound fractures, and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was the only occupant in his vehicle.

Taylor said the 10 people in the family van reported only minor injuries.
