Two 19-year-olds killed after their Honda careens into an almond tree

Two 19-year-olds from Riverdale were killed when their 1998 Honda crashed into an almond tree outside of Caruthers on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

On Monday, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the men as Augustin Sanzon Flores and Marcos Gonzalez Silvestre.

Officer Vic Taylor said the crash happened just before 6 p.m. as the two men were soutbound on Walnut Avenue just north of Elkhorn Avenue.

Taylor said the driver lost control at high speed and crashed into several older, established almond trees in an orchard. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP said neither Flores nor Gonzalez Silvestre was wearing a seat belt.

No other details were immediately available.
