Selma man drowns in canal
A 39-year-old man who drowned in a canal in the Selma area was identified Friday as Jimmy Renteria by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place about 8 p.m. Thursday. Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said deputies were told that Renteria vanished while swimming in the canal on South Fowler Avenue just north of East Rose Avenue. Renteria was swimming with friends when he disappeared under water. His body was found with assistance from the sheriff’s helicopter.
