Fresno woman killed in head-on crash on Highway 41 near Yosemite Springs Parkway

A 30-year-old Fresno woman is dead after a head-on crash on Highway 41 on Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened north of Yosemite Springs Parkway just before 4 p.m.

The woman was not identified pending notification of family.

According to CHP, Kai Eugene Kelikuli, 49, of Santa Maria was driving a 2015 Volkswagen northbound on 41 and going over the posted speed limit of 55 mph when he went into the southbound lane to try and make a pass, hitting the Fresno woman's 2007 Chevrolet head-on.

The woman was wearing her seatbelt but was pronounced dead at the scene. Kelikuli was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected out the driver's side door and suffered major injuries. He was taken by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

CHP says alcohol does not appear to be a factor but drug impairment has not been ruled out. CHP says its investigation is ongoing and criminal charges against Kelikuli will be considered.
