Man rescued after driving through golf course, into pond

A man was rescued from his car Thursday evening after it plunged into a pond at Copper River Ranch, said Fresno fire Captain Paul Garnier.

The car traveled through a metal fence and across the golf course around 8:30 p.m., landing in a water pond that is around 6 to 8 feet deep.

A woman who called 911 saw the car sinking and jumped in the water to try and break the window. Firefighters stopped her when they arrived, Garnier said.

The man was rescued after a firefighter broke the car’s window, and the driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

It is not clear why the man’s car went off the roadway, Garnier said.
