One woman killed, another injured when they were struck while crossing a street

One woman is dead and and another is hurt after they were both hit while crossing a street in Visalia on Saturday morning, Visalia police Sgt. Damon Maurice said.

Christine Wilson, 51, and a 78-year-old woman who has not yet been identified were crossing north on Walnut Street from the Rancho Viejo shopping center just before 8 a.m.

A 2005 Toyota truck driven by Robert Castillo, 31, of Visalia, was driving south on Parkwood Court and making a left turn onto Walnut Avenue when he allegedly hit the pair, Maurice said.

Both were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where the 78-year-old woman died of her injuries. Wilson is being treated for her injuries.

Maurice said speed and alcohol are not factors in the collision, and the cause is still under investigation.
