Did they just say Visalia in a ‘Modern Family’ episode?
Visalia got a shoutout on a recent episode of ABC’s “Modern Family.” And it wasn’t an insult.
In Wednesday night’s episode, a harried Claire Dunphy, one of the show’s main characters played by Julie Bowen, refers to Visalia several times in a scene about routing delivery trucks to different cities.
Faithful watcher Eddie Perez caught it on video and shared it with the city of Visalia.
Friday Funny: Has anyone seen Claire Dunphy around town? She had some business here in this week's episode of @ABC's @ModernFam. We're thinking Claire is no stranger, her correct pronunciation gave it away. Thanks to resident Eddie Perez for the heads up! #visalia #modernfamily pic.twitter.com/mbKmrv6Cb5

The mention was a welcome surprise to Visalia residents and anyone in the central San Joaquin Valley. Not only did Bowen pronounce Visalia correctly, but the South Valley city wasn’t used as a punch line.
For years, Valley cities, including Fresno, Bakersfield and, yes, even Sacramento, have been made fun of in movies, sitcoms and talk shows.
Recently, Stephen Colbert trashed Sacramento, calling it boring.
