90-year-old woman killed in Highway 41 crash

A 90-year-old Coarsegold woman died Thursday after a two-car crash on Highway 41 in Coarsegold, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said Billie Williams was a passenger in a Lexus being driven north on the highway by Linda Sue Murphy, 70, also of Coarsegold, just before 3 p.m.

Murphy was turning across the opposite lane to get to a business at 35680 Highway 41 when a Ford driving south at 50 mph hit the right front of the Lexus.

The Ford ended up in the driveway and the Lexus was left on the highway. The CHP said Murphy made an unsafe turn, which put the Lexus in the path of the Ford.

Williams was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center where she died of her injuries. Murphy was taken by ambulance with major injuries, the CHP said.

The driver of the Ford, Summer Kieffer, 38, sustained minor injuries but refused aid.

The highway was closed for about 35 minutes while the site was cleared, the CHP said.
