Donations to the Salvation Army in its red kettle campaign have gotten a slow start this holiday season, so a matching-funds campaign will be conducted Saturday to double contributions, the organization announced.

For every $20 put into the Army’s famous red kettles on Saturday, a matching $20 will be given by several donors who have pledged the monies.

The campaign will only occur on Saturday. It involves red kettle locations throughout Fresno, Madera, Kings, Tulare, Merced and Mariposa counties.

Funds raised in the kettles support programs year-round that help homeless people, those who are hungry and children needing after-school care.

Offering the matching funds are Educational Employees Credit Union, the Red and Nancy Arnold Foundation, Hakker Dairy, ResCom Pest Control and anonymous donors.
