Three people were honored with Fresno County Educator of the Year awards in a Thursday night ceremony at William Saroyan Theater.
Ray Zavala of Clovis Unified School District is the School Employee of the Year. He is plant supervisor at Pinedale Elementary and has worked in education for 22 years.
Kings River High School Principal Rick Church of Sanger Unified is Administrator of the Year. He has worked in education for 20 years.
Ellen Youssef of Clovis Unified is the Teacher of the Year. Working at the kindergarten level at Miramonte Elementary, she been a teacher for 21 years.
Thursday’s event was hosted by the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools in partnership with the Educational Employees Credit Union.
Twenty nominations were received for the employee award, 18 for the administrative honor and 20 for top teacher.
Every district in the county has the opportunity to nominate one honoree for each of the three categories. A selection committee narrows the field to three finalists in each category, with winners chosen by closed ballot.
Winners of the School Employee and Teacher categories have the opportunity to apply for the California Department of Education awards in 2018.
