The birth of the founder of the Sikh religion will be celebrated with free lunches in west Fresno on Saturday.

The Sikh Council of Central California will host the event, where lunches will be handed out from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Victoria Park – renamed Khalra Park.

Lunches will include Subway sandwiches, samosas, rice biyani, tea and cold drinks. Literature about the religion also will be available.

It’s all to celebrate the birth month of Guru Nanak dev ji, the founder of the Sikh religion. November is Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month in California.

The Sikh community recently donated more than $20,000 to Poverello House.
