A U.S. marshal runs red light chasing vehicle and slams into another car
A U.S. Marshals Service vehicle was involved in a four-vehicle accident at a Visalia intersection Tuesday afternoon, police said.
About 12:30 p.m., a U.S. marshal in a Dodge Durango that had its lights and sirens on was “attempting to catch up to another vehicle” when both entered the intersection at Riggin Avenue and Demaree Street on a red light, police said in a news release.
The marshal’s vehicle hit a Toyota Camry going south and which had the green light. After being hit, the Camry went into the eastbound lanes of Riggin and collided with two pickup trucks stopped at the intersection, Sgt. Damon Maurice said.
The Camry driver had to be extracted by firefighters. He was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with major injuries. The marshal driving the government vehicle was taken to the hospital for complaint of pain.
The accident is still under investigation.
