Two homes under construction caught fire in a residential area in west Fresno on Sunday night.

Fresno Fire department was called around 9:05 p.m. to Hammond and Polk avenues for reports of buildings on fire, according to Battalion Chief Christian Palmer.

Arriving crews discovered two, two-story homes on fire. One of the homes was completely engulfed in flames while the other was just about to catch fire.

Crews used heavy streams to knock down the flames from the first home.

The first home was destroyed while the second took minimal fire and water damage to the north side.

Neither of the homes had electricity or gas.

The area near Polk and Hammond remains blocked off as the investigation continues for the cause of the blaze.
