He died when two vehicles struck him on the highway. Then two more hit him.
A man was struck by four different vehicles Friday night after running into traffic on westbound Highway 198 in Visalia. He died at the scene, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man, only identified as 46 years old, wore black clothing and blended in with the night’s darkness before he was hit by a Jeep and flung into the air. He landed in the slow lane of westbound Highway 198.
The man was then struck by a Ford truck that was driving not far behind the Jeep, the CHP said. The drivers of the Jeep and the Ford truck pulled over after running into the man, who was already dead. During that time, the driver of a 2003 Toyota was approaching the stopped vehicles and had slowed down, but did not see the body and also hit it, the CHP said.
A fourth vehicle also struck the body before traffic could be rerouted. The accident, which was reported just after 9 p.m., happened west of the Lovers Lane exit. The fourth vehicle did not stop and was not described to the CHP. And even though the impact of the last vehicle is not believed to have contributed to the death of the man, a search is still underway for the driver.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
