The body of a Fresno man who drowned at Wishon Reservoir more than a month ago while trying to right his capsized boat has been recovered, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The victim was 54-year-old Randall Lee Box. His body was recovered Monday.

On Sept. 8, deputies responded to a capsized boat on the lake, where it was reported Box had drowned while attempting to right the boat. The victim’s wife was also on the boat, but was rescued by a passing boater.

Box’s wife said they had been fishing near the back of the lake when one of their dogs jumped in the water. She said her husband attempted several times to pull the dog back into the boat and that is when it capsized and Box disappeared underwater.

The sheriff’s office and boating and dive team conducted multiple search operations. They also requested help from members of the Tulare, Stanislaus and San Bernardino County sheriff’s dive teams and “Bruce’s Legacy,” a national volunteer nonprofit organization that assists in underwater search efforts.
